My used car broke down after a few months of buying it. Can I claim?

You do have legal rights if something goes wrong with your car

When you buy a new or used car from an official dealer, you are protected by the Consumer Rights Act 2015 if it develops a fault.

It all depends on where you bought the vehicle and how it was described.

Let’s say that you bought a used car from a recognised dealer, then you have more legal protection than if you bought it from a private seller or at an auction.

However, even if the law is in your favour, it can be time-consuming to get any money you’re entitled to as well as it being costly, because you might have to take the seller to court if they are being diffucult.

You may prefer to ask our paralegal at Impel Legal to act on your behalf and instigate a claim, even if it is just to get the car repaired.

We’re happy to look at your case and review the history from the day of purchase to present day and then propose a way forward.

The best thing is to email us with all the information you have and we’ll probably ak a few questions then report back to you with a proposal.

We can help you and act on your behalf, don’t worry about that, it’s just a matter of how we can help.
